“Battery is the main source of the power, if it’s dead, how come my phone was ringing”.
This is what my friend told his adamant girlfriend when he came back from a mountaineering trip. She might be right, this is what I told him because it does happen sometimes, the call goes to the cellular servers of the service providers, and after a few rings it says the person is not unreachable or the phone is off.
When our phone battery dies, the phone turns off abruptly and doesn’t give enough time to the cellular servers to determine the status and when someone calls us, it might ring sometimes, but again, it’s the worst-case scenario.
This post I believe will help my friend Ryan to settle down things with his adamant girlfriend. Let’s understand what could be the scenarios and what’s possible when our phone is dead, will it ring, will it directly go voicemail, will it say unreachable or something else, worry not, hop on!
How To Know if Someone’s Phone Died?
So, if you have called someone and their phone rang, but later they told you that, they didn’t receive any call because the phone’s battery was drained, they are right, the phone won’t ring if the phone is dead.
I however have collected some research from my own experiences and have spoken to many of my friends and family, if they have experienced something different, read below;
1. Call them Directly
Try calling them directly, and check what the response comes as. If it says the number you are calling is switched off, then there are chances that their phone is dead. In one of my personal experiences, there were 2-3 rings then it said the number was switched off or unreachable.
2. Abrupt Cuts In Calls
If you are talking to them and the call drops or cuts abruptly and when you call again, the response comes as unreachable or switched off, there are high chance that the phone’s battery has died.
3. Your Call Goes to Send Voicemail
The non-questionable response is when your call is directed toward the voicemail or voice message. This clearly tells us that their phone is switched off.
4. Number Unreachable
You dialed someone and it says the number is unreachable and then goes to voicemail, it tells us two scenarios, either the person is out of network coverage area or their phone’s battery is dead, and due to the abrupt loss of connection with cellular servers, it says as the number is unreachable.
Will FaceTime Calling Still Ring If The Other Person’s Phone Is Dead
Now, this is the scenario that I felt like telling you for sure because this happened to me. During the COVID lockdown, when I was living separate from my family and we only used to connect over Facetime, many confusions arose and many perished, this is one which I encountered while calling my dad.
I FaceTime my dad one evening and he didn’t answer, I called Mom and when she told me that he was busy with TV, I was irked. I simply called him and it said the phone was switched off. Later, when I spoke to him he told me that he never received any FaceTime, because his phone was dead and he had no idea (he is very unfamiliar with gadgets), I was perplexed.
It happened because when I FaceTime him the call went to Apple servers, as FaceTime connects through that way only. The Apple server took some time to determine that the phone was switched off but initiated the call, once it stopped ringing.
Conclusion
Hope this article will help you to come out of many such confusions. Technology is growing with every second, but it’s not every time possible for many among us to stay updated and then there come the confusions and misunderstandings, anyways, I have tried hard to clear many. Knock anytime on my door with any such doubt causing you to sleep in two different rooms.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Call Someone If Their Phone Is Off?
There is no way out to call them, but you can definitely send a text message/message/voicemail and as soon as they turn their phone on, they will receive it.
Why Would A Person’s Phone Not Ring?
The phone’s drained battery is the primary reason, another possible reason is the no network coverage and in the worst-case scenario if the phone is physically damaged it won’t ring.
Why Can I Text But Not Call?
There are probably some network distortions in your area or on the receiver’s end. Message or text requires a very low range of signals to be sent. Try changing your location with a few distances and check.
