In the first few months of owning my Traeger, I wished there were some Traeger operating experts that I could call to operate this complex machine. Over time, my perspective changed as I got familiar with its user-friendly app and the grill itself. But one thing that I wasn’t sure of until last week was “How to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi?”

I had to change my Wi-Fi network due to server issues but forgot to change the same on my Traeger. Soon after realizing this, I headed over to Google to look for a solution but all I found was lengthy guides on how to connect Traeger for the first time rather than establishing a new connection. 

Therefore, I decided to create an easy yet detailed guide to help my readers and Traeger owners on How to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi. Alternatively, if you are facing issues in removing the old Wi-Fi network from the Traeger grill, then watch out for my troubleshooting guide towards the end of this article. 

How to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi?

Before connecting your Traeger to New Wi-Fi, it is crucial to first reset or forget the old Wi-Fi connection. Every D2-Wi-FiRE-enabled grill has a Wi-Fi reset option however, every Traeger requires specific steps to reset the Wi-Fi connection or connect it to new Wi-Fi. Take a look at the following categories to look for the correct guide for your Traeger:

Category 1

Old models of Timberline and Ironwoods without touchscreen controllers. 

Category 2

New Timberlines and Ironwoods with touchscreen controllers.

If your Traeger falls in Category 1, then follow these steps to connect it to new Wi-Fi:

Step 1: Turn on your Traeger Grill and press the Menu option.

Step 2: Scroll down to Wi-Fi Information option and press the controller dial to select it. 

Step 3: Then scroll down to the Forget Network option and press the controller dial again to confirm the selection.

After this step, your old Wi-Fi will not appear anymore in the list. 

If your Traeger falls in Category 2, then follow these steps to connect it to new Wi-Fi:

Step 1: Turn on your Traeger Grill and press the Menu option.

Step 2: Scroll down to Wi-Fi Information option and press the controller dial to select it. 

Step 3: Stay on Wi-Fi Information Screen, then press and hold the Ignite button for about 10 seconds. 

Step 4: It’s time to Power Cycle your Traeger. 

1. For the first time, turn off the grill from the ON/OFF switch and unplug it. 
2. For the second time, use the ON/OFF switch to turn on the Traeger and wait for 10 seconds.  
3. For the third time, turn off your Traeger. 
4. Then plug in the power cord and turn ON the Traeger.
5. Repeat Step 2 to reach the Wi-Fi INFORMATION option. The old Wi-Fi network should disappear this time.

Network Still Appears on Grill after a Wi-Fi Reset

If your old Wi-Fi name does not disappear from the Wi-Fi Information screen after following the above steps of Wi-Fi reset, then follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Turn off your home network router to ensure that the main Wi-Fi signal is off.

Step 2: Perform a Wi-Fi Reset option on the grill again.

Step 3: Your old Wi-Fi network will not appear anymore. 

How to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi on Android and iPhone?

After successfully performing the reset/forget Wi-Fi option, follow these steps to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi:

Android 10 or above

Pre-requisites for setting up a new Wi-Fi connection:

1. Download the Traeger app and log in to your existing account. 

2. Ensure that the Home Wi-Fi is turned on.

3. Ensure that the Traeger grill is ON and is within 30 feet of your Wi-Fi router.

After you have completed 3 necessary requirements as shown above, follow these steps to connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi:

Step 1: Pair your grill with the Traeger app by selecting “Add a New Grill” option followed by scanning the QR code present under the pellet hopper lid.

Step 2: Choose 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi if it prompts. Then enter your Wi-Fi password.

Step 3: Pick a nickname for your selected grill.

How to Connect Traeger to New Wi-Fi Without QR Code?

In case you have replaced the controller of your Traeger, you might not receive a QR code with it. But for some reason, if you have to reset your Wi-Fi connection and want to connect to a new one, then follow these steps on your Android or iPhone:

Step 1: Ensure that the Traeger grill is plugged in and turned ON.

Step 2: Launch the Traeger app and sign in.

Step 3: When you see a QR code prompt on the screen, then choose “I Don’t Have A QR Code” option.

Step 4: Then enter your grill’s (old) nickname.

Step 5: Then head on to the grill’s controller and navigate to MENU > Wi-Fi Information > GRILL NAME. 

Step 6: Then use the password mentioned after “Name: Traeger-” and continue.

Step 7: Enter your grill’s password (4 digits after “Password: Wi-FiRE-“) and continue.

Step 8: You will require a UUID which can be found on the controller, (MENU > SETTINGS > ABOUT GRILL) the continue.

Step 9: You will be prompted to enter your Wi-Fi password. Enter the password and tap Join.

Step 10: Lastly, you need to give your grill a nickname.

You can start Traegering!
